Why Welcome Cats Into Your Home?

December 25, 2018

Between 2017 to 2018, a survey by the American Pet Products Association (APPA) has found out that 68 percent of the households in the United Statesown a pet. It is almost equal to 85 million homes.

From those figures, there are 89.7 million dogs taken care as household companions, while a whopping 94.2 million cats are living comfortably as pets. There's a significant difference, which can imply that there are more and more people who have become more welcoming towards cats, and that's no surprise. Cats are as lovable as dogs or any other known pets.

Pet Cats: Up Close and Personal

Feline pets are playful and independent creatures, making them irresistibly adorable animals to bring home. Imagine looking at kittens, don't they make you giddy? Aside from that, cats have also become internet sensations with so many cute videos and memes online. You get a daily dose of cats anytime you want as long as you can access the internet. But cats go beyond their adorable looks and aloof personalities. They make good pets at home. And if you're planning to get a pet for the first time, then go for a feline companion. Of course, you have so many options; you can have a conventional choice or an exotic animal. However, choosing cats has many benefits that make them worthy household additions.

Why Bring Cats Home?

Economical

For one, cats are low-maintenance pets. Unlike dogs, they don’t need to be walked out every day. And they don’t need too much food, so you get to save a lot of money for their daily sustenance. In addition to that, cats are very good companions if you live in a small apartment. They don’t need a big space and are pretty much-contented squeezing themselves inside a box.

Although it’s a common knowledge, you must not discount the fact that cats are natural pest terminators. They are able to sense pesky rodents and insects around your house, so you can expect to live in a less stressful home. But don’t be surprised to see red-stained or messy floors. Because of their feral nature, cats tend to use sharp claws and teeth in dealing with pests.

Good for the Body and Mind

There are many studies that prove how beneficial pets are to our health and to the kids as well. But when it comes to feline pets, you can certainly depend on them to keep your body and mind healthy.

When children are exposed to cats at an early age, they have fewer chances of developing allergies. The presence of pet danders, which are considered as a natural immunotherapy, help the bodies build a better immunity against disease-causing microorganisms. However, this does not apply to adults. If you’re already suffering from allergies, getting a pet cat can no longer combat that medical condition.

But don’t fret. There are other physical health benefits that adults can get from owning a feline furry. Did you know that cats can lower the risks of cardiovascular diseases? According to scientific studies, cats and other pets help lower stress levels and blood pressure, resulting in reducing the chances of heart problems like stroke and heart attacks.

Aside from that, scientists have also found that a cat’s purr has healing abilities. A cat produces its purring sound when it's breathing in and out, creating the same pattern and a frequency from 25 to 150 Hertz. Researchers further revealed that sound frequencies within that particular range have positive effects on bone growth and density, as well as healing.

A study by the Indiana University Bloomington revealed how watching cat videos brightens a person’s mood. Cat videos are simply entertaining that it boosts your energy and brings out positive feelings, drifting you away from negative thoughts and emotions. Basically, cats make you happy. Moreover, feline pets are effective companions when you’re mourning as they are there to keep you company while you pour out your grief and sadness. You’re able to cope well since cats can neither respond nor judge you.
